Hey, how’s it going?

I'm Brian Kleiber, a digital marketing specialist focusing on SEO and content marketing. I'm down with data and use it to drive results; whether it's to improve a website's search visibility or find a new topic to write about, research and data are of the essence.

I'm also a bit of a camera nerd. After a childhood obsession with my parent's 35mm point-and-shoot and Handycam (both of which I still have, miraculously), I got my first camera at 19 years old and carried it everywhere with me. A passion for capturing the world around me helped jumpstart a side career as a Director of Photography and Camera Operator.

My Background

I graduated from Champlain College in 2011 with a degree in Marketing and Advertising. While in school, I developed a keen interest in digital marketing. I'll admit it: I was never the best student, but in the coming age of social media and the digital world, something clicked.

Dr. Elaine Young must've seen the light bulb go off and helped me immensely as not only a professor but also a mentor. Her support was motivating and inspiring.

Before graduating, I launched culturecycles.com, as a catalyst to broaden my digital skillset while keeping up with a lifelong passion of mine: cycling. Thanks to this project, I was able to learn and leverage search engine optimization, basic CSS/HTML, WordPress, Google Analytics, copywriting and community management. Over the 5 years or so the site was active, it morphed into something much bigger than I'd expected. We obtained advertisers, sponsors and even threw multiple annual events in Burlington.

My Career

After graduating, this plunge into the digital world led me to a job at Dealer.com as an SEO Analyst, personally managing the search campaigns for over 180 automotive dealerships across the United States. After demonstrating my capacity for converting web traffic into leads, I was appointed as one of three analysts to manage the SEO strategies for a Fortune 500 auto group of dealerships.

At the same time, Elaine Young, asked me to come back to Champlain College as a student mentor. I met with students who displayed a deep interest in SEO & digital marketing and advised them on their Senior Capstone projects.

Moving to Shanghai

In 2014 I got a call from a friend in Shanghai. He was opening an indoor skatepark & skate school. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities...I couldn't say no.

Teaching skateboarding wasn't easy, it felt like herding cats. But I took a liking to Shanghai - things were new and exciting, so I decided to stick around.

I ended up meeting a few guys and between the three of us, we had complimentary skillsets when it came to digital marketing, so we started building e-commerce businesses. I handled SEO, SEM, SMM, copywriting, PR outreach, content creation and more. Over the next two years, we'd go on to launch a handful of successful online businesses selling both b2b and direct-to-consumer goods.

Currently:

In 2017, I went out on my own and started my freelance career, helping clients of all shapes and sizes handle SEO and content marketing. Around the same time, I also started getting commercial video work thanks to some skate friends who started an agency here in Shanghai.

As a dedicated lifelong learner, I'm always on the lookout for new opportunities. If you'd like to discuss a project, ask a question or just hit me up to chat, feel free to send me an email or reach out on Twitter/Instagram. You can also check out my /now page and see what I'm currently working on (provided it's actually up-to-date 😂 ). If you know someone who might need my help, you can send them here or forward my resume.

Thanks so much,

-Brian
